Mike Semedo- The Consummate Champion
Mike is a cool calm and collected guy who enjoys playing soccer. The game bought Mike local fame over years as teams local and abroad have vied for his services. Things could have turned out so differently had his passion for another sport been just as strong.
Mike; The Early Years
Born in Waterbury Connecticut, St. Mary’s hospital, the stout figure was raised by both parents. His mother hailed from Virginia as his dad emigrated from São Nicolau, Cape Verde.
São Nicolau (Portuguese for Saint Nicholas) is one of the Barlavento (Windward) islands of Cape Verde. It is located between the islands of Santa Luzia and Sal. Its population is 12,424.
Both parents figured greatly in rearing Mike and supported him in his sporting ventures. Playing shadow basketball was a precursor to Mike’s development in said sport and was an early indicator of the young man’s dedication to practice.
It was at 7 years old when Mike started playing travel soccer that his passion for the fastest growing sport in North America enveloped. His father being from the African isles, had a deep seated passion for soccer and encouraged him in this direction.
Major Influence
My dad has been most influential. Had always been around even when are aren’t on good terms.
Most Memorable Soccer Moment
In my freshman year of high school, second varsity we played Naguatuck high school- were words sung with with deep reflection and pride by Mike. He continues- I scored the only goal in the 90th- The significance of the win was more than the goal scored in Fergie Time, but that Nagautuck High School has won the championship two years in a row and were truly a tough opponent. This was the year 2000 and a sign of things to come.

Soccer Mike or Mikey are names that have affectionately been attributed to the 5 ft 11' tank of a player in Mike Semedo. Having played professionally, Soccer Mike is an assistant coach at his alma mater Post University. Soccer Mike also has his own academy called Mike Semedo Skills Academy.
Much like his early days where he was committed to shadow basketball, Mike has now committed to reading regularly. His hope is to read a book each week. His latest adventure is Paulo Coelho’s, The Alchemist.
Hidden Talents
