Meysar Abdulkadir: How Ambition Sweetens A Life Ravaged By War

Meysar Abdulkadir is an enterprising soccer player who has traversed the Greater Hartford area playing with varied teams. Meysar plays with Lion’s FC, an outfit run by Mohammed 'Moe' Abdulahi, in the Springfield area of Massachusetts. The tireless utility player is also honing his craft with the Danny Gomez-led KO Elites U23’s.

Meysar was born in Kenya after his family fled conflict-torn Somalia, where his beloved parents were born. As fate would have it, civil war in Kenya forced his family to migrate from their refugee camp to the United States where they now call home. Having never been to Somalia, his spiritual home, he pines after the country but dotes on Kenya and the USA equally, as all three countries have had an impact on his life.

What Motivates You?

“I am motivated by my family. To know that they were from a place with very few opportunities and were brave enough to seek a life where they did not know the people or the language is an inspiration.”

Career Goals

I am studying Business Administration and Human Resource at Post University. I am in my senior year with a semester to go but I would love a pro career in soccer if possible. I also want to pursue my post-grad studies at Howard University.”

Favorite Team

“Real Madrid and AC Milan”

Favorite Player

“Robinho and Kaka are my favorite players. I supported Real Madrid and AC Milan because of them.”

Favorite Food

“Biriani- it’s good man! You might not know it. It is a special food in the Middle East and places like Kenya and Somalia.”

Favorite Music

“I love all music man. As long as it sounds good I will listen. I don’t discriminate. I even listen to Chinese music, Indian music, reggae, and a little American music.”

Most Memorable Soccer Moment

Meysar is a player who is adept at playing many positions. He plays left wing-back with 3rd Eye FC and center back. He is deployed in the midfield and other attacking positions in other teams. Meysar recounts, “ we had a tough season one year at Bulkeley High School in Hartford, Connecticut. I remember scoring a long-range screamer that led us to a 1–0 victory. My first official goal with MLK Junior Club also brings back memories too. I felt like Zidan when I scored. There is something special about scoring a header.”

Meysar Abdulkadir is a quality player who has quick feet and a quick mind. Always willing to serve and have a conversation, Meysar is consciously cool. He is a family-oriented ‘baller’ with ambitions to play at the highest level of the game. 3rd Eye FC applauds Meysar and wishes him the best in his pursuits.
